Below is a Letter from Richard P. Burke
As you many know, the Oregon legislature will be back in session in early January. But already, our senators and representatives are meeting, caucasing, and feeling each other out on possible budget deals that could be struck in their efforts to deal with Oregon’s $3 billion budget gap. NOW is the perfect time for grass roots action, when their minds are still open and they have the most flexibility. Now is the time to lobby them to steer clear of new taxes and reduce government spending.
For this purpose, I have organized a training conference and celebration to take place on Saturday, December 11th at 12:30pm. The event will last until 8pm and will include dinner. The conference will be at the Shilo Inn at the Portland Airport, located at 11707 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR 97220. I am organizing this event under the auspices of the non-partisan “Committee for a “l”ibertarian Majority” (CLM). The event is being supported by Americans for Prosperity, the Oregon 9-12 Project, and Cascade Policy Institute. Full details are in the attached event flyer.
Attendees will receive intensive small group training on the Oregon Budget, the “Facing Reality” set of budget proposals put together by the Cascade Policy Institute and AFP, how to lobby effectively, and how to testify before public committees, commissions and boards. There will also be a discussion of the TEA party movement and where it goes from here. A PDF containing more conference details and a complete agenda is attached to this document.
The conference will begin at 12:30pm on Saturday, December 11th at the Shilo Airport Inn in Portland.
The conference includes a cocktail hour with live music, and a dinner with fantastic speakers. The speaker list includes:
1. Wayne Allyn Root
Best selling author, Fox News personality, and former Libertarian candidate for US vice-president.
(Root will also lead the discussions on the future of the TEA Party movement)
2. Katie Eyre Brewer (R)
State representative-elect from District 29 and CPA
3. Steve Buckstein
President of the Cascade Policy Institute, former candidate for state treasurer
(Buckstein will also lead the trainings on the Oregon budget)
4. Matt Evans
Communication Director for Americans for Prosperity
(Evans will also lead the trainings on lobbying legislators)
5. Art Scevola
Leader of the Oregon 9-12 Project
Yours truly, Richard Burke, will emcee the event.
Tickets are $40 on-line, $50 at the door. Because CLM is a political action committee, you can recover the entire fee through the Oregon Political Tax Credit when you file your taxes next year. Ticket price includes dinner, all training materials, and admission to all conference events.
