This week 29,000 lower-income children nationwide start classes in private and parochial schools, thanks to the Children’s Scholarship Fund. Since 1999 the Children’s Scholarship Fund has empowered more than 111,000 children to receive a quality education in schools chosen by their parents or guardians.
While their financial means are limited, Children’s Scholarship Fund parents sacrifice to give their children a better chance. They value high-quality education as the way out of poverty and pay, on average, over half of their tuition bill themselves.
The investments of both parents and benefactors are reaping great rewards. Students are motivated to succeed. Many are now in college and graduate school or have entered the workforce. But the impact of teachers and school environment on a child’s life goes beyond measurable results like improved grades and test scores. Parents also witness positive changes in students’ attitudes toward life and learning and solid character formation.
A scholarship from the Children’s Scholarship Fund-Portland is a “hand up” for Oregon children eager to learn. If you would like to help a lower-income child get a better education today, contact the Children’s Scholarship Fund-Portland at Cascade Policy Institute.
