By Thomas Dulcich and Michael Barton Buy effexor without prescription, Oregonians are most fortunate to border the Columbia River, prized for its scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, power generation, irrigation, fishing resources, transportation, and a long list of additional values. We pay for the management of this complex resource with our taxes and utility bills; but if Measure 81 passes this November, Purchase effexor without prescription, Oregonians will have another distinction. We alone will be prohibited from enjoying Columbia River salmon and other fish caught by non-tribal commercial fishers.

Measure 81 bans a method of commercial harvest known as gillnetting, effexor india, but it also includes a stealth provision: a purchase ban for Oregonians only. Cost of effexor, The “purchase ban,” found in Section 2 (2) of Measure 81, would prevent Oregon buyers and consumers from buying non-tribal net-caught fish from the Columbia River, cheap effexor pill. If you live in Washington, you still would be able to enjoy Columbia River salmon, buy effexor without prescription. The same is true if you live in Washington, Effexor medicine, D.C., or California, or…well, cheap effexor overnight delivery, anywhere but Oregon. Effexor drug, What justification is offered for prohibiting Oregon buyers and consumers from purchasing Columbia River-caught salmon. None.

Measure 81 is the latest effort by sports fishing interests to increase their share of Columbia River fish at the expense of commercial fishing that supplies product to grocery stores and restaurants, cheap effexor in canada. Buy effexor without prescription, Currently, fish are allocated among the small commercial fleet, sports fishers, and tribal fishers (who also oppose Measure 81).

What is the source of the conflict. Buy discount effexor online, Perhaps it stems from the industrialization of sports fishery and the resulting overcapitalization. The Columbia River commercial fleet, which fishes for consumers, buy effexor from india, is restricted by “limited entry” laws to a specified number of licenses (only 200 in Oregon). Order discount effexor, The “guide industry,” which markets day trips for hobby fishermen, is not limited in number by Oregon law, buy effexor once daily. The financial barriers to entry to become a for-profit fishing “guide” are relatively low (a $50 Marine Board license, a pick-up truck, and a boat), so it has been easy, in the absence of limited entry, for this “commercial sport fishing” endeavor to become overcapitalized, buy effexor without prescription. Over the past 10 years, Cheap effexor online, hobby fishers got 80% of the Columbia River Spring Chinook and 80% of the sturgeon, while the non-tribal consumer access fleet got 20%. The allocation of other runs also favors recreational fishers, best price effexor. Does it make sense for consumers to get even less. Effexor order,

The rationale offered by the backers of Measure 81 includes the claim that removing gillnets from the Columbia River will enhance fish conservation. Buy effexor without prescription, This idea has been promoted with scary-sounding but unsubstantiated claims of widespread killing of other wildlife by gillnets. In fact, gillnets long have been the only method allowed by law and regulation for the commercial harvest of Columbia River fish, discount effexor no rx, in large part because this is the method which has the least negative impact. Buy cheap effexor online,

While he opposes Measure 81, Governor John Kitzhaber has ordered the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission (and has “suggested” to the Washington Commission) that it adopt administrative rules severely restricting the commercial fleet by taking away the mainstream Columbia River and limiting commercial fishing only to very tiny back waters or side channels known as the “select areas.” The governor’s plan also will reduce consumer access to products of the Columbia River, such as the Spring Chinook salmon, effexor, Summer Chinook salmon, Cheapest generic effexor online, sturgeon, Fall Chinook salmon, and Coho salmon, effexor buy. The commercial fleet, composed of a few hundred small family businesses and several fish processors (mostly in rural Oregon and Washington), is of the opinion that Governor Kitzhaber’s plan will kill their industry and jobs―not in an overt, sudden way, but instead by slow death.

Why should Oregon consumers care about this. First, locally caught salmon is a very healthful source of natural protein, teeming with omega-3 heart-healthy vitamins, buy effexor without prescription. Second, Oregon taxpayers (and ratepayers) contribute through their taxes and utility bills to the ongoing work to sustain salmon runs, which must migrate through the hydropower system on the Columbia River and its tributaries. Given this financial investment, it is reasonable that all Oregon consumers―not just hobby fishermen―be able to enjoy Columbia River salmon. Measure 81 and Governor Kitzhaber’s plan are anti-consumer and anti-Oregon, and both should be defeated.

You’re stretching the truth to the point of being a liar. I only bans buyers from buying or receiving salmon, steelhead, or other fish taken by a gillnet or tangle net. You’ve left out the last and most vital part of the statement! Wholesalers and consumers will still be able to buy from those that use SEINE NETS.
Also, you don’t even mention the alternative of seine nets in your article which leads me to believe that you are scared of the alternative being viable.
I was divided on this issue. I think that maybe we should give the decision more time and work more with Washington and the commercial fisheries to come up with a viable solution to the steady decline of the wild salmon population. But now that I have caught your bold misguiding of the truth, I feel force to believe that you are just scared of change. If your argument had a leg to stand on, you would not need to resort to these kinds of tactics.

    Sincerely,
    Former Undecided Voter

This does not sound like an “undecided voter”! Consider the following:

Seine nets are not approved for use in the Columbia River by the National Marine Fisheries Service, which decides what harvest can be made in compliance with the Endangered Species Act (“ESA”); gillnet harvest is allowed. Some limited testing of seine nets is underway by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, but the long-term mortality studies will not be completed for several years, so if gillnets are prohibited under Measure 81 effective next year the alternative gear will not be approved. So, if Measure 81 passes Oregon consumers will not have access to non-tribal net-caught fish from the Columbia because the only ESA-approved harvest method still will be gillnets. Plus, seine nets were outlawed on the Columbia River by an Oregon initiative petition in 1948, based in part on the argument that they were too efficient and too destructive. Gillnets have been found by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife to be a “selective” harvest tool under the “TAG” (Time-Area-Gear) management regime. ODFW has an informative presentation on this at http://www.dfw.state.or.us./fish/OSCRP/CRM/docs/Selective_Fisheries_JN_071220.pdf-2011-08-11. If Measure 81 had conditioned the ban on Oregon fishers using gillnets as taking effect only after the federal authorities approved seine nets under the ESA for use on the Columbia River, then the comment might contain something worth discussing. But the proponents of Measure 81 did not do so. Instead, the proponents simply chose to eliminate only for Oregon fishers the type of harvest gear used by Washington and Tribal fishers, and the only federally-approved gear under the ESA, and specified a non-approved alternative that was banned by Oregon voters in 1948. And Oregon consumers will pay the price for that choice if Measure 81 is adopted.

Tis interesting how “Former Undecided Voter” managed to not bring in all the facts while proclaiming someone else didn’t give all the facts. He sounds more like a Progressive than undecided.

As Reagan stated, “Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.

Thanks for keeping the record straight and on track.

Well, there you go. Why didn’t you add that to the article? Instead of pitting their own seine net “option” against them, you ignored it and made yourself look fishy (Pun intended).
With the added information you have provided, I did more digging and found that it doesn’t look like we are really ready to move forward with this action. The pieces aren’t quite all in place. Luckily, I haven’t sent my ballet out.
@Fred. I wasn’t trying to break down all my points of pro and con running through my head. I’m actually not really super invested in the measure and didn’t know or care until I my voters’ pamphlet. But reading though it, it seemed like a big deal and I wanted to make an informed decision. Barton and Dulcich are not completing their argument by saying, Oregon won’t get salmon on their restaurant plates BECAUSE the use of seine nets are not yet allowed by all those that regulate them. Instead they stop before the BECAUSE and just make themselves look like Republican jerks.
You can be Liberal OR Conservative and still be Undecided on an issue. Try it sometime. :)

And it wasn’t just B and D not completing the argument, the opposition to the measure was doing this in general. This brought up huge red flags for me as a voter.
