Throwing more money into public housing like Portland city hall constantly tries is the definition of being brain dead. The more free goods and services like housing the city provides, the more poor folk from around the country re-locate to Portland. Multnomah county has a higher poverty rate than the whole state, which is the opposite of San Francisco and Seattle where urban poverty rate is actually below the state average significantly.

Other cities found out long ago homelessness can’t be solved by ever expanding allocation of public resources to it. There is an infinite supply of folks who will take it easy if the city let’s them.

Hey, Commissioner Fritz and crew, get a brain!

The reason for the housing limit is the Oregon issue of land use planning and saving resource lands, farm and forestry areas. Housing is outlawed in these areas, to save land for farming and forestry products.

I own a small farm and have watched as the farming areas have become void of people, especially young families with childeren. Housing that does exist is very expensive and is on land that is not affordable.

What has happened over forty plus years is Oregon farm land is now occupied by a very old group of people, without families, or any young people living in the area.We have created a labor shortage and a lack of farm and ranch skills in Oregon.

The main issue of Oregon land use planning in the seventies was saving farm and ranch land and keeping it productive and undevloped. We need to rethink these past policies and do what we set out to do, save our good farm and ranch land, employ people and make the Oregon economy strong and sound.
