Supporters and users of this system should pay for it, not the nonusing taxpayer.
Maybe supporters will think twice about promoting this kind of crap again…
Seattle has the same kind of problem with the light rail system and the ferry system which burdens non users thru taxes…another pile of crap!

GREAT – but maybe this tells TRIMET that people do NOT want the service! Thank God I do NOT live in the tax area of this mess.

What you have, is a typical self perpetuating growing Government looking for any excuse to further it’s growth by various grand projects at taxpayers expense to provide so-called needed services. Government should never provide any services that the Private Sector can provide…PERIOD! If the Private Sector deems that such a service cannot be supported economically then, that service should not be instituted. Yes, Governments are capable of building bridges to nowhere and other grand waste just, to give the excuse for expansion and costs to the taxpayer. Governments are inherently corrupt and the larger Governments grow, the bigger the Crime Family.

And the whole time the government is saying.

“Move along folks, nothing to see here.”

When will Oregonians stand up and vote these liberals out of office?

Geez, if they closed down WES, TriMet would shave by over one-third its current budget deficit for the year. I would love to see TriMet raise WES fares by $18 per ride. It would become even more of a ghost train. The U.S Coast Guard might have to be called in to blow it up so as to eliminate the hazard it represents.

Support for public transit is for many urban Portlanders more like a religious commitment than anything else. Unfortunately this means that they are not interested in and don’t want to hear about its economic shortcomings. In fact, the worse it is economically the firmer is their support, as an act of faith.

This is why they look regard you as evil or depraved should you ever suggest that yet another rail project is not a good idea.

It’s weird to see people who think of themselves as ‘progressive’ committing themselves to such a primitive form of religious idolatry, but it’s worth remembering that someone once said “when people stop believing in God they don’t start believing in nothing – they start believing in anything at all.”

In this sense urban rail systems are today’s medieval cathedrals. They are devotional monuments on a deliberately grand scale. A lot of the people who had to pay for the construction of the cathedrals scattered across Europe probably weren’t too happy about having to fund them either.
