Oregonians know that they’ll set themselves on fire if they pump their own gasoline, and they know that low-skilled minimum wage workers will lose their jobs and form roving bands of disgruntled youth if we were ever to repeal our self-service gas ban. They now must recognize similar dangers associated with allowing the elite electric car owners among us to charge their own vehicles. We must stop this madness before it spreads to the general gasoline-car-owning population.

Call your state legislator now. Demand that they protect us against ourselves and create some unneeded jobs by voting for the Electric Vehicle Safety/Plug Jockey Jobs Act. Remember, it’s for the children.

Greatest commentary EVER! What a riot! :)

Steve, your satirical commentary on recharging electric cars was right on the money. It has long been known that Oregon is one of two (or at most three) states where motorists cannot legally gas up their cars by themselves. I remember running across a self-serve station when I first visited my cousin in California. I had no idea what to do. But a sympathetic attendant showed me the ropes. Good for him.

Note that whenever we go across the border to Washington and need to fill our tanks we do not explode into flames, unless we are dumb enough to smoke. Still the liberals will most likely enact a law allowing electric car owners to recharge their vehicles and hypocritically leave the existing ban on self-serve gas fills in place. After all, they need as much control as possible.

They need to keep the gas-filling “jobs” in place. After all, to these idiotic politicians, a job is a job. I can tell you that that is not true. If you are trained as an engineer or mathematician, why should you settle for less? Not in Oregon. No wonder I moved to California and did quite well. When I returned to Oregon to look after my mother in 1991 (big mistake) my career when straight down the toilet.

Keep up the good work, my old friend. Best wishes to all of you.

All requiring plug jockey’s will do is raise the cost per re-charge for Oregonians…For that reason (no plug jockey’s = cheaper re-charge costs), I intend to do all of my re charging in Washington where they allow you to do your own plugging …look how much cheaper gasoline is in Washington where they make you pump your own! Oh wait a minute ….never mind! Doh!

Give us the bill number, make it a little easier.

We have a bunch of monkeys running the show.
It is time to replace all the monkeys at once.
    Vote them all out.

Fred, I’d give you the bill number if I could, but the bill doesn’t exist. I made it up to make a point. Then again, there may be some enterprising legislator writing such a bill right now. If so, I’m sure I’ll get the credit, or blame.

This sounds like a job for the Federal Government! Let’s get Congress working on this one.

    Good start, Steve!
I certainly see there is an implied provision establishing a licensing and certification program for the plug jockeys, but that should be made explicit – perhaps a separate law! Also, there should be provisions requiring necessary inspections and permits to set up the commercial charging stations.
Also needed is a section on penalties for violating any of the provisions in these laws! Perhaps we need another law to require owners of electric vehicles to buy special insurance guaranteeing protection against electrification for all, especially the children.

I’ll start working on those laws this week, Jo. To the extent that they’ll create more useless jobs I’m sure some in the legislature will be all for them.

    Ah, now I see.

The problem is that I have testified against bills as ridiculous as what you “wrote”. I just figured it slipped past me. That is why I asked for the bill.

I have also discovered the “ultra-seek” search engine does not search the bills properly and “they” don’t know what to do about it. Yes I have told them about it and all “they” can say is we are looking into it and it isn’t our product.

    • Steve Buckstein June 14, 2011 at 5:06 pm #

Yes, Fred, unfortunately the legislature does introduce ridiculous bills like this all too often. I guess in the future we’ll have to say something like “This is not a drill” when discussing real bills of concern.
